Arlus wall lights

copy wall lightphoto copy

These wall lights are so chic! The small inverted shade hides a small lightbulb that operates independently from the the larger bulb hidden by the large splayed shade. The light pivots on the ring connecting the large and small shade so that light can be directed where needed and the arm extends/retracts. These lamps are such a gorgeous form and so well thought out by the designers. They are perhaps a little big to go next to a bed (but maybe not) but would work exquisitely on either end of a canapé.

Arlus was a French company started in 1910 and committed to delivering a wide range of lighting products and delivered many highly technical custom solutions . From what we can see the company was taken over by Debbas about 50 years ago and still operates with the same goals and standards.  We would love to hear from anyone with more info.

Noé Duchaufour Lawrence’s ‘Flux’ table lamp

GAIAandGINO-Flux-Table-Lamp-by-Noe-Duchaufour-Lawrance-thumb-620x411-57198

The Flux table lamp, part of the new ‘Enlightenment’ collection by Noé Duchaufour Lawrence marks the designer’s first collaboration with GAIA&GINO. The hand blown glass light first debuted at Milan in March this year. It was designed to evoke glass as it is being blown with the central column representing air as it passes through the material. The marble base recalls the mineral origins of glass and this connection between process, material and form fascinates us. The source of light, which renders the piece functional is buried deep within the heart of the piece enveloped in layers of beautifully crafted hand blown glass.

Taher Cheminik’s brushed brass ‘Calligraphy’ paravent

Taher Cheminik’s brushed brass ‘Calligraphy’ paravent, unites the emotion and excitement of jewelry and sculpture using a timeless material to create a new experience of a traditional form of furniture. It is a continuation of his furniture series called ‘Bijoux d’Intérieur’  that enchanted us at Design Miami last December. This piece is currently debuting at PAD London.  To us, it communicates a strong singular statement that solidifies the designers incredible ability to successfully realize designs of varying scales.

This piece is for sale. We can also source other work for you by this designer. Please contact us for inquiries.

Elise Gabriel and the ‘Liga’ chair

Exposition-Etreinte-design-Elise-Gabriel-Galerie-Gosserez-Chaise-Liga elise-gabriel2

Under the tutelage of Erwan Bouroullec and Benjamin Graindorge, the young French designer Elise Gabriel has explored the challenging properties of Zelfo, a cellulose fibre based material, in the design of this ‘Liga’ chair. Zelfo is manipulated while still damp and then reduces by 70% while drying and hardening. Gabriele has here used it as a structural element to bond the wood and create the rigid structure while reinforcing the solidity of the chair. The wood is held together by Zelfo alone without glue or nails, an extraordinary achievement when you consider that it is as resistant as a classically assembled chair.

There is a dynamic tension which exists between the wood and the Zelfo creating an organic and harmonious whole. For us the beauty of this piece lies in the juxtaposition and coexistence of the two materials allied to the sinuous lines of the frame – a mingling of fragility and strength.

Birgit Severin

Romantically and dramatically imperfect porcelain? In fact, it is 3D printed rubber!  We first saw Birgit Severin’s series of vases and bowls, which is entitled Ashes,  presented at Le Off! during Design Week here in Paris in September. To us, her breathtaking designs bridge a line between fragility and strength.  They express simultaneously a delicate beauty and a dark demise. This beautiful yet poignant balance touches an eternal cord.

For Severin, this series explores associations between beauty and death. ”The expressive power of withering was commonly used to represent the idea of vanitas in art, particularly in Flemish painting. Flowers and fruit are symbols of beauty, youth and pleasure. Simultaneously, in their decay they become reminders of life’s brevity and the inevitability of death. The project reinterprets this concept for the context of the modern household.”

For French designer Benjamin Graindorge, cristalCane lamps are living beings. Their skeletons are made of glass and they carry the essence of light with grace and elegance: the energy is totally invisible – revealed only through its effect – the brilliance of the glow.

We found the ‘Anamorphea Desk’ by Yves de La Tour d’Auverge in the last photo to be rather intriguing. He is an artist who has started to explore certain dualities of light and shadow through sculpture and functional objects that was not possible for him to express with paint.

This spectacular exploding cabinet in aluminium designed by Maria Pergay for Fendi’s Paris flagship boutique redefines dynamism . Pergay’s unique ability to infuse life into the severe and linear forms of stainless steel with which she works is astonishing – her pieces pulse with energy.

Maria Pergay will design three limited-edition pieces for Fendi Casa’s forthcoming Paris flagship store, kicking off a series of Fendi Casa Icons capsule collections. She will also be reissuing some of her iconic pieces for the limited edition collection beginning with her Wave Bench complete with a Fendi fox-fur cushion. At the 2013 edition of AD Interieurs Pergay created two magical rooms with the theme ‘Metamorphose’ and included her iconic Wave Bench and Flying Carpet Day Bed. This exciting alliance between the House of Fendi and Pergay is something we’ll definitely be watching.

Pierre Cardin Dinner Service

photo copy 2

Can you tell what this is??? I was so intrigued I had to ask when I first saw it several months ago. It’s a dinner service for two including: dinner plates, salad bowl, salad plates, desert plates, little bread plate and dishes for olives and on top a salt and pepper shaker! When stacked together it creates this sculptural cone form. It was designed for Pierre Cardin and around 1970 by the famous Italian company Ceramica Franco Pozzi. We have purchased one for a client but still know where two more can be found if you are interested!

If you are interested please contact us for inquiries.

Exciting new design at ‘Le Off’, Paris 2013

We are always on the lookout for exciting new design work and we weren’t disappointed when we visited ‘Le Off’ exhibition a few days ago during Design Week Paris. These fabulous single and double seater chairs stopped us in our tracks. The beauty of the materials and the smooth sweeping lines of the minimalist design echo mid century British sculpture. We can confirm the chairs are also supremely comfortable!
