Italian design thinker Gabriele Pezzini, is renowned for his work as Design Director for Hermès. His projects for France’s top luxury company range from aluminum suitcases to yachts and cars. He will receive us in his studio and apartment in the 9th arrondissement for a discussion on design. This discussion will include an introduction to his design philosophy using examples (drawings/prototypes/etc.) from several of his projects and will expand into the subject of how objects can help us define our philosophies about life.
The discussion will last for about an hour and a half and will continue on a more casual level next door in his stunning modern loft apartment, where guests will be offered champagne and hors d’oeuvres.

4. Galerie Dutko, Galerie Downtown and Maria Wettergren Galerie
Saturday 26th October 10am-12am
Galerie Jean-Jacques Dutko.
Mr. Dutko will present Eric Schmitt, whose new body of work the gallery is presenting this fall. Eric Schmitt is an internationally renowned decorative artist whose method of exploring a form follows in the tradition of the early Modernist decorative art masters including Pierre Chareau, Jean-Michael Frank and Eugène Printz. His ability to find and express timeless harmony in practical objects resonates deeply with collectors.
Guests will meet the decorative artist, learn about his work and Mr. Dutko will discuss how it fits into the evolution of the finest French decorative art.
Also of interest to attending guests: Schmitt has an ongoing relationship with Ralph Pucci to produce limited edition furniture in the U.S. and in Paris he designs pieces for the French interior designer Christian Liaigre.
Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) was a self-taught architect, designer and metal worker whose work encompassed architectural, structural, industrial and furniture design during his long career. His mulit-disciplined approach enabled him to use manufacturing technology without losing the aesthetic qualities so characteristic of his work. Both engineer and modern designer, Prouve said « never design anything that cannot be made ».
He collaborated frequently with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret on furniture design and the influence of this giant of the early modern design movement is far-reaching. We will discuss specific objects as a means of understanding why his work has come to hold an iconic place in Modern design.
Galerie Maria Wettergren
The key theme of the gallery’s FIAC Week Selection is the interdisciplinary dimension of 21st century contemporary Scandinavian design. An important characteristic of today’s creation is the dialogue between art, design and architecture, where radical exchanges are taking place with minds and materials pooling into multi-faceted collaborations.
The gallery highlights the works of contemporary Scandinavian artists/designers in the center of this phenomenon. Standing out for their innovative and highly poetic pieces, they are part of important museum collections such as the MoMA and the Centre Pompidou.
Maria Wettergren will speak about the unique or limited edition pieces she will be exhibiting in her gallery during FIAC, such as Matthias Bengtsson’s latest ‘Growth Chair’ in cast bronze and Grethe Soerensen’s monumental Jacquard weavings. She will also be exhibiting works by Astrid Krogh, Mikko Paakkanen, Eske Rex, Rasmus Fenhaan and Tora Urup in collaboration with FIAC.
